Since the passing of our dog we have received many, many words of comfort from our friends. I was particularly affected by this thought about pets.
"They stay as long as they can and they give you everything they have."

As one of Spike's acquainti, I can say with authority, he was a good doggie. He will be remembered with love.
And good God, how that dog could vacuum up cat food. That time he visited me, he devoured every atom of food set out for my pussies in less than a minute. Even the cats were impressed.
